St. Joseph Rayong School is on a 25 rai (about 10 acres) plot of land that, more than 50 years ago, was given to Mère Anna de Jésus, Provincial of Sisters of Saint Paul de Chartres, Thailand, by the then Governor of Rayong, Mr. Song Lawsuntorn. Mother Superior was allowed to build the first building, named the Saint Anne building, in 1963.
The school officially opened on the 17th May, 1964 under the guidance of the Director, Sr. St. Albert (as such, St. Joseph Rayong School celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2014). The school initially took girls from Kindergarten through to primary level, with 19 teachers and 406 students. In latter years, the school expanded up to include both lower and upper high-school. There are 85 Thai teachers and 21 foreign teachers. Kindergarten now accepts both girls and boys. The primary objective of St. Joseph Rayong School is to provide a high quality of education for girls, focusing on the development of their mind, an understanding of health, respect for society and emotional awareness. We follow the goals of Saint Paul de Chartres which include providing students with education that promotes knowledge, understanding, high morals, politeness and discipline. All the students learn on an intensive English language program with native English speakers. Chinese language is also taught by Chinese speakers. |
